Consultation

Boss Counseling Services provides consultation in several areas that could benefit your business: human resource development, creating productive workplaces, and employee health and wellness.

Group Sessions

Boss Counseling Services may do group sessions with a specific topic (parenting, family focus, etc.). The number of sessions and the cost will be discussed and set up ahead of time for all participants.

Office Policies and Procedures

A full session is 50 minutes in length and may run a full 60 minutes if Cynthia believes it is warranted. Usually appointments are scheduled weekly, but this too is flexible depending on the client’s needs and circumstances. During the initial intake, Cynthia will discuss the frequency of sessions and what can expected. She will also discuss the importance of client therapy goals and will give a probable time for therapy sessions to be completed.

Release of Records

On occasion Cynthia may be asked to send records to, or to request records from, other care providers, the court, or schools. On these occasions, the client will be asked to sign a “release of information” form, without which records will not be sent. Even with the release, only the specified records will be released or requested.

Insurance Billing

Clients who choose to use insurance are expected to check with their insurance carrier to verify coverage or obtain necessary authorizations.  When a diagnosis is requested, the diagnosis will be discussed with the client. If the insurance company covers mental health services and Cynthia is not on the list, please let her know so she can apply to be added to the list.

Referrals

On occasion Cynthia may determine that another health care professional with a specialized expertise, skill and competence in an area that the client may need is necessary for the client’s wellness. In this case, Cynthia will discuss the issue and help with the referral process.

Cancellations of Appointments

Clients are responsible to change or cancel appointments with a minimum of 24 hours notice.  Missed appointments with less than 24 hours’ notice will be charged directly to the client.

Confidentiality

In the state of Michigan, communication between therapist and client is considered privileged. Recent legal developments require clarification with regard to confidentiality. Please note exceptions to the confidentiality law:

  • If you are an adult, anything you say in the context of psychotherapy is privileged, except if you are behaving in a way that poses a threat to yourself or another. Your counselor is required by law to contact the person(s) involved and warn them of possible danger. This may include a contagious life-threatening disease if there are parties known to be at risk for contracting the disease.

  • Parents/guardians of minors hold privilege and are entitled to information communicated by their children, however our counseling professional ethics require the counselor to communicate information only in ways that will be helpful and in the interest of maintaining the client-therapist relationship.

  • Michigan law requires certain professionals to report suspected incidents of child or elder abuse/neglect. Counselors are required by law to report.

  • In group work, including work with couples and families, counselors will explain the importance and parameters for confidentiality. There are limitations to the confidentiality when multiple people are involved.

  • When information is released to a third party such as an attorney or insurance company, confidentiality cannot be assured.

If something regarding the confidentiality-privilege law is ever unclear, please ask for clarification.
