Cynthia A. Boss, MA, LPC-S

Cynthia A. Boss is a fully Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Michigan. The scope of practice in brief for a Licensed Professional Counselor includes all of the following:

  • Assessment, testing, and evaluation

  • Individual, family, and group counseling and psychotherapy

  • Diagnosis and treatment planning for mental and emotional disorders

  • Prevention, behavior modification, and guidance for individuals, families, and organizations

Cynthia received both undergraduate and graduate degrees from Central Michigan University.  She holds a Master of Arts in counseling within the discipline of Professional Counseling.  She holds a kindergarten through twelfth counseling endorsement for schools in Michigan, has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education and is Certified in Secondary Education. She also has an Associate’s Degree in Audio Visual Technology.  Cynthia received her training to supervise Limited Licensed Professional Counselors through graduate training at Western Michigan University.  She is also trained in Response Ability Pathways (RAP) and certified in non-violent crisis intervention (NVCI) through the Crisis Prevention Institute. Cynthia is trained in many behavioral therapies including Cognitive Behavioral therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).

To keep up with the latest research, Cynthia belongs to many professional organizations such as: American Counseling Association (ACA); Michigan Mental Health Counselors Association (MMHCA); International Association of Marriage and Family Counselors (IAMFC); and Women Therapists’ Network, comprised of northern Michigan mental health therapists from different fields of study. 

In addition to working as a therapist in private practice, Cynthia has worked for the Growth and Development clinic at Central Michigan University along with working in the educational setting as a counselor for Pullen Elementary in Mt. Pleasant. While living in Mt. Pleasant she also conducted groups for the other six elementary schools working on topics such as:  self esteem, expectations, teasing, friendship issues, and social skills. 

Cynthia moved north with her husband and children in 1993 and started her private practice. In addition to her practice she went to work for East Jordan Public Schools. Cynthia worked as a counselor in all three buildings (Elementary, Middle and High School) at one time or another enjoying the blend of ages and families.  She retired from Public Education in June of 2015.  Cynthia has been a guest speaker for many school districts encompassing several topics, but specializing on parenting skills for young families.
